Student Feedback
We have completed two (2) runs of the subject, IDP. Here are
some comments from the cohort of students who took the July 2003 Interdisciplinary
Project CDS offered by HSS:
“This subject will really help in getting to further
understand and it’s a good way to have the problems you have
in mind solved………It is like giving solution for
the future.” (Joshua Lim – Temasek Informatics
& IT School)
“After attending this subject for the last few months,
I am enthusiastic, comfortable and confident to handle such problems
in future.” (Li Hui – School of Business)
“In conclusion, this CDS allows me to show out my potential
than I have never discovered before and also build my relationship
with classmates from different diploma. It also builds my confidence
and communication skills in a way or so.” (Si Jia
– School of Engineering)
“Now after going through three problems using the PBL
approach, I am more polished with analytical, research and questioning
skills. Those were the skills I was looking for at the end of the
day.” (Benny Wang – School of Business)
“It was truly enjoyable as it was the only subject that
spurs us to think of every possible solution instead of just anchoring
on one solution.” (Ya Fang - School of Applied Science)
“ I felt that IDP is a good subject because tutors are
not there to spoon feed us…Peer teaching in the group is essential
because we get to learn all the theories and concepts through them
rather than studying the textbooks.” (Cindy Low –
School of Business)
“I could not ask for more in this subject and this is
the best subject I have taken in my entire academic experience since
young. If there is a Level 2 subject, I will be the first to enrol.
After going through IDP, I finally realised what does it mean to
be a critical thinker. Gone are the days when I take information
for granted and accept it without understanding and asking questions.
I no longer rely on one source of information but also find other
means and ways to gather information. I have learnt more about leadership,
teamwork and communication due to the nature of IDP. The things
I learnt in this subject are invaluable and very practical to apply.”
(Ronald Yong – School of Business)
“IDP
gives very real-life and practical problems which by getting contact
with it, we learnt to apply the skills to our own situation.”
(Wang Xi – Temasek Informatics & IT School)
“I found that looking at problems from different perspectives
can yield different results as there are many ways that we can look
at the problem. …IDP was a great experience for me. I think
I will be applying the skills to problems that I face in the future.”
(Jun An – Temasek Informatics & IT School)
“Compared to before attending IDP classes, my research skills
have significantly improved a great deal. I have learnt to become
more resourceful and also more capable of sieving and summarising
information. I believe that this is one of the most fruitful results
I have gained from IDP classes. IDP lessons have been truly a pleasant
and rewarding learning accomplishment. I am definitely going to
apply what I have gained and learnt to my other subjects and even
in future days ahead.” (Elizabeth Chia - School of
Applied Science)
“…In fact I find IDP is one of the few subjects
that are both enjoyable and useful. In fact, I find this IDP subject
the most enjoyable one for this semester. If there is an advance
course for this subject, I will definitely take it.” (Tiong
Lin – School of Engineering)
