Developmental History
Temasek Engineering School adopted the Problem-based Learning (PBL) approach in 1998. Computer Engineering was the first diploma to embark on this approach and work began by converting more than 70% of its curriculum from traditional classroom learning to Problem-based Learning. In July 1999, the Diploma in Computer Engineering became a full-fledged PBL diploma.
The outcomes of such a curriculum in Computer Engineering were positive. Following this, the PBL approach was adopted as part of the curriculum in various other diplomas in the School of Engineering.
In August 2002, the management embarked on a PBL framework that strives to fulfill three purposes:
- To provide a common ground among all diplomas in ENG in the implementation of PBL practices in their respective curriculum.
- To serve as a diagnostic tool for examining a PBL-based subject in practice.
- To chart the future direction for driving PBL at the ENG School level.
