Training
Relevant training to allow staff to move into the tenets governing
this new methodology is given on a request and demand basis. Staff
especially divisional staff are trained in facilitation skills which
gives staff an overview of PBL, a hands-on experience in facilitation
skills and a holistic view on managing the PBL tutorial process with
immersion in the process as a requirement.
Other than relevant staff training, students too are trained
to take on this new methodology. Diplomas have initiated pre-PBL
training and PBL orientation programmes for their students in
such areas as conflict management skills, meeting skills and
the like.
Some quotes from staff who have attended the PBL facilitation
training will be helpful to place the kind of reviews received: |

Da Silva, Geoffrey
Course Manager
Diploma in Retail Management |
" The study and practice of Marketing requires the graduate to be
a problem-solver in all aspects. Challenges such as globalization, technological
changes, intensive competition and more sophisticate customers means that the
marketing practitioner must constantly be looking for new solutions. PBL is the
ideal pedagogy to guide students in knowing how to apply the concepts and frameworks
they learn in the respective marketing courses and apply these towards
solving real-world marketing problems, many of which will be assigned by clients
and industry partners who support Temasek Business School's approach to
Problem Based Learning. Having applied PBL throughout the entire curriculum
in the Diploma in Marketing, we have had very positive responses from employers of
our Marketing graduates who are able to see demonstrable improvements in the way
they handle work assignments."

I read the written feedback.
I chatted with colleagues on the session.
The verdict, best PBL training.
We will make this training a must for all.
Will have the rest of the team to go thru as well.
Thank you and well done.

Essentially the Business School drives its PBL initiative
with a team of staff who form the Business School's Thinking
Taskforce. Members of this taskforce are staff from each of
the nine diplomas. The taskforce members assist with training,
coordinating the PBL initiatives for the respective diplomas
they represent as well as initiating school-based events like
PBL sharing and forums for staff.
The School will embark on training its staff in the other
PBL modules in the coming years.
