Developmental History
The Temasek Business School grew into the PBL methodology. From using
a traditional time tested approach the school embarked on a thinking
initiative movement. Beginning with the teaching of common thinking
tools in the year 1-core subjects, it moved to teaching subject based
thinking tools in year 2 and culminated in a Problem-Based Learning
methodology in the year 3 curriculum.
The intent was to give learners as vast an expanse into thinking
as possible. However, the school follows a diploma curriculum management
approach and thus diplomas can choose to implement the PBL methodology
much earlier in the cycle.
In this respect too different diplomas move at different paces
where change readiness is concerned. There are diplomas that have
gone PBL in year 2 such as Law and Management and Marketing. Then,
there are diplomas that have partial PBL in year 2 and move to full
PBL in year 3, like the Business Diploma. There are also diplomas
that have pockets of subjects taught using the PBL methodology like
BIT, HRM, TRM and CMM. Thus, the hybrid version of PBL is also a
part of the Business School's reality into the PBL endeavour.
The Business school aims at diversity and dynamism in its curriculum
management. Each diploma and subject team can try new methodologies
in line with staff comfort levels in implementing this new approach.
